Nigeria is in ICU; ADC leaders must take it out to global reckoning: Ralph Nwosu

Founder and pioneer chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Ralph Nwosu, has expressed optimism that its new leadership will lead the party to victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Mr Nwosu, who spoke during the unveiling of the ADC coalition in Abuja on Wednesday, said the party’s interim chairman, David Mark, would lead the party to Aso Rock in 2027.

“We all decided to resign so that Mark can paddle this canoe and get us to the Villa,” Mr Nwosu said. “Nigerians are yearning for change. They are yearning for the coalition.”

Mr Nwosu congratulated Mr Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola on their emergence as interim national chairman and secretary respectively, assuring them of unalloyed support from the party’s stakeholders and members.

“I congratulate you both and assure you that working with the NWC and NEC members you will meet, you have no problem. I will be talking as a floor member. My job will not end until we sing the national anthem in the Villa. That will be the real hope. We can help Mark and Aregbesola by the way we conduct ourselves. Anybody who says anything against what we’ve done today is not an ADC member. We shouldn’t be apologetic. We need to be ready for this battle. More will come, but the way we are we will surmount them,” he noted.

Describing Nigeria as a country in an intensive care unit, the politician urged the party’s new leadership to be more concerned about fixing the country’s challenges.

“Nigeria has been in ICU. Lives are being lost every day. My appeal to the emerging political leaders is to take Nigeria from the ICU to global reckoning because we can,” Mr Nwosu said.

The coalition members, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai and others, had earlier rescheduled the unveiling of ADC as their adopted platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027 to Umar Musa Yar’adua Conference in Abuja.

This came hours after the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments management announced it would not be hosting the coalition members for the event, citing internal compliance matter.
