Court sentences ex-Real Madrid coach Ancelotti to prison

A Spanish court has sentenced a former Real Madrid coach Carlos Ancelotti to one year in prison.
Although Mr Ancelotti, who won three Champions League titles with Real in his two spells in charge, will not have to serve time in jail, according to a BBC report.
According to Spanish law, any sentence under two years for a non-violent crime rarely requires a defendant without previous convictions to serve jail time.
During his first spell in charge of Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015, Mr Ancelotti was accused of failing to pay 1 million euros (£830,000) in tax on his salary.
The former Chelsea and Everton boss will escape imprisonment but must pay a fine of 386,361.93 euros (£333,045.92).
Mr Ancelotti, 66, ended a second spell with Real Madrid at the end of the last session and took the Brazil job.
Early this year, the former Real Madrid coach said he “never thought about committing fraud” as he testified in court.
He added that he was offered a net salary of six million euros (£5.1m) by Real and that he left the structure of it to his financial advisers.
“I thought it was quite normal because at that time, all the players and the previous coach had (done the same),” Mr Ancelotti said.
He, however, paid back the debt in full in December 2021.
