The state commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Keshinro Adedotun, has commended the hitch-free conduct of the Lagos State local government elections on Saturday.

Mr Keshinro, who had earlier assured the government, electoral officials, and voters of a peaceful exercise, said the election was serene, smooth, and well-organised, owing to the orderly conduct of the electorate.

Speaking after a monitoring exercise, he disclosed that the NSCDC deployed 2,450 personnel and strategic monitoring teams to ensure adequate security, peace, and stability.

The commandant also praised voters for cooperating with security personnel across various polling units.

He listed some of the local government areas (LGAs) and local council development areas (LCDAs) monitored to include Ikeja (Alausa), Agege, Isolo, Alimosho, Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, and Apapa.

Mr Keshinro lauded Lagos residents for their high level of compliance with the movement restrictions and urged them to remain law-abiding during future elections in the state.

A document from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission(LASIEC)  shows that only 15 of the 19 political parties that initially expressed interest in the elections submitted a candidate list ahead of the poll.
