Two men arraigned over alleged theft of gold chain, other valuable items

The police on Thursday arraigned two men, Temitope Olukoya, 38, and Wasiu Yaro, 45, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing a gold chain and other items worth millions of naira.
The defendants, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, were charged with conspiracy, stealing, and assault.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that the offences were committed on June 23 at about 7:00 p.m. in the Opoo area of Ibadan.
Ibrahim alleged that the duo attacked one Wasiu Adeita, the complainant, and stole his gold neck chain, wristwatch, mobile phone, N2.7 million in cash, and other valuables, all worth millions of naira.
He further informed the court that the defendants allegedly assaulted the complainant with a bottle, causing injuries to his mouth.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until August 19 for hearing.
