The Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday expressed its grief over the sudden death of Leon Usigbe, the Abuja bureau chief of the Nigerian Tribune.

In a statement by its spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, the party described Mr Usigbe as a dazzling, highly experienced, and quintessential journalist.

Mr Ologunagba further described Mr Usigbe as an exceptionally cerebral, yet calm, friendly, and thorough professional who dedicated his life, skills, resources, and energy to deepening multi-party democracy, promoting good governance, and ensuring accountability in Nigeria.

“Usigbe was a courageous journalist who stood for justice, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law. He fearlessly spoke truth to power through his reporting, opinions, and incisive commentaries,” Mr Ologunagba said.

He added that the PDP would always remember Usigbe for his professional composure, affable disposition, and excellent working relationship as a correspondent of the Nigerian Tribune covering the PDP.

Mr Ologunagba also expressed the party’s condolences to the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune, the PDP Press Corps, and the Nigerian Union of Journalists.

“The PDP mourns his passing; our prayers and hearts go out to his widow and children during this moment of grief. We pray to God to send the Comforter to console them with His abiding presence and grace,” he said.
