Police say serial Akwa Ibom ATM fraudster nabbed

The Akwa Ibom police command has apprehended a man suspected of being involved in serial ATM card fraud.
Timfon John, spokeswoman for the command, stated on Monday that the suspect specialized in swapping ATM cards to make fraudulent withdrawals.
Ms John explained that the police apprehended the suspect after receiving distress calls from two Uyo-based banks regarding his activities.
“The suspect’s image was captured by the banks’ CCTV cameras; this led to his swift identification and arrest at a bank premises in Abak Road, Uyo, on Saturday,” she said.
The officer added that investigators recovered seven ATM cards from different banks from the suspect.
“The suspect has also admitted that he operates alone and that he operates mainly in Cross River and Akwa Ibom. The police command has received a formal statement from one of his victims. The victim also identified him,” she said.
She further said that the police would prosecute the suspect as soon as the investigation was concluded.
