China’s fugitive turns self in after 28 years at large
China’s most wanted graft fugitives, Liang Jinwen, has returned to China and turned himself in after 28 years at large overseas.
Born in February 1954, Liang was formerly a general manager of an automobile brake company in Zhuhai, south China’s Guangdong Province.
He was suspected of seizing property by taking advantage of his position before fleeing abroad in November 1996.
In December 1997, Interpol issued a Red Notice for Liang.
The return and surrender of Liang came after joint efforts by disciplinary watchdogs and public security organs of both Guangdong and Zhuhai.
This fully demonstrates China’s firm stance and determination to pursue every fugitive and bring them to justice, according to the Fugitive Repatriation and Asset Recovery Office of China’s Central Anti-Corruption Coordination Group.
Liang is the 64th individual apprehended on China’s list of the top 100 Red Notice corruption fugitives and is notable for being the earliest among them to have fled abroad.
