Kogi: FRSC reiterates commitment to safety of lives, properties

The Federal Road Safety Corps has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property along highway corridors in Kogi.
Kumar Tsukwam, state sector commander of the corps, made the pledge while receiving Suberu John, senior special assistant to Governor Ahmed Ododo, on road safety matters on Wednesday in Lokoja.
Mr Tsukwam said that saving lives along the nation’s roads was the primary role and responsibility of the corps, adding that the corps would not compromise the well-being of citizens and all road users.
He described the visit of the governor’s aide as worthwhile and timely, considering the importance of collaboration in ensuring the safety of motorists and commuters.
”We do appreciate this visit to the command, as it will go a long way in encouraging and strengthening us in performing our duty.
“Since my assumption as sector commander in Kogi, my focus has been on ensuring a safe motoring environment in collaboration with the state government. We are seeing the results, considering the drastic reduction in road crashes on our roads in Kogi,” he said.
Earlier, Mr John commended the corps for its humanitarian service, especially in the areas of prompt rescue services on the highways and ensuring that lives were not lost through unnecessary road crashes.
He pledged his readiness to work harmoniously with the command to educate the public on the importance of safe driving on the roads.
This, he said, was in line with the UN Decade of Action 2030, which aims to reduce crashes and injuries by 50 per cent.
He also pledged his support to the command, particularly in the areas of training and staff education.
