Police hunt killers of businessman in Anambra

The police command in Anambra State has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of the abduction and subsequent murder of Managing Director, Fish Magnet Outlet, Ifesinachi Onyekere.
.
Mr Onyekwere, a businessman, was abducted from his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka, on July 27.
A statement by the police spokesman in Anambra State, on Wednesday in Awka, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, as giving the directive to tactical and intelligence units of the command.
Mr Orutugu condemned the killing and assured residents of the state that the criminal elements behind the cowardly act would be brought to book.
He said that the police owe it a duty to the family, the people of Anambra State, and the memory of the deceased to ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
In the statement, Mr Ikenga said that the CP’s directive followed the recovery of the victim’s Toyota Corolla car on Ukwulu-Igbariam road by the Joint Security Team, comprising Anambra Vigilance Operatives and the police.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the assailants had trailed the victim before launching the violent attack, during which the deceased was shot in the leg and forcibly taken away. He was later found lifeless, sparking public outrage and deep concern among residents of Awka,” the command’s spokesman said.
