The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Monday released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

The council announced this in a post on its X page, asking candidates who sat the exams between April 24 and June 20, 2025, to check their results on its website.

“The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for school candidates, 2025, that the results have officially been released today, Monday, August 4, 2025. To access the result, log on to waecdirect.org,” the examination body wrote.

WAEC kept to its promised date of release, which was assured on July 20 by its spokesperson, Moyosola Adesina, who dismissed rumours of an alleged cancellation of the exams already written.

The council is expected to release data on the state-by-state breakdown of students’ performance in the exam.

The exams generated controversy after students in some states sat the English Language Paper 2 under darkness as late as 10:00 p.m. on May 28, which continued past 12:00 a.m. on May 29.

It was also gathered that some secondary school students began taking the exam between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., although the paper was originally slated for 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28.

Viral videos shared by parents online showed students using torches and candles to read and answer questions, as there was no provision for electricity.

This raised concerns among Nigerians, especially parents and guardians, about the safety of the candidates amid the rising insecurity in the country.
