Battle for Sesko reaches fever pitch as Manchester United, Newcastle outdo each other
The battle for striker Benjamin Sesko becomes more intense as Manchester United submits an official bid for the forward after Newcastle United tabled an improved second offer for the forward.
The Red Devils have officially made their first bid worth €85 million (£74m, with €10m in add-ons), which surpassed Newcastle United’s initial offer of around €80 million (£69.7m plus add-ons) for Šeško
The bid followed Magpies’ submission of an offer worth around €90 million on Monday, a figure that beats United’s opening bid.
However, United remain keen on bringing the Slovenian attacker to Old Trafford, having already informed the Bundesliga side that they would table an official offer only if Šeško makes it clear he wants the move.
The focus now moves to the 22-year-old who is left to decide on which side of England he will move to, with reports indicating that the player is favouring Manchester United. But at the same time, Newcastle demands a decision from both the club and player.
The attacker has scored a total of 39 goals in 87 games for RB Leipzig since joining from Red Bull Salzburg. His form has drawn widespread attention across Europe, with his physical presence notably his height, long ball striking ability, and his pace and runs with the ball.
Despite the interest, RB Leipzig is not under pressure to sell, having extended the striker’s contract until 2029. The Bundesliga side remains calm but is expected to evaluate both bids carefully in the coming days.
For Manchester United, securing Šeško would provide a long-term solution to their striker problem and lack of attacking threat from the frontline. It would also support new signings Cunha and Mbeumo, both already proven in the Premier League, and could lead to a strong link-up in attack.
A move to St. James’ Park would also be favourable for the Magpies, as the forward would be a vital addition to strengthen their attacking line ahead of a busy domestic and European campaign, especially with the current uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak’s future at the club.
