Enugu: Commissioner seals X-ray unit of Poly General Hospital

The Enugu government has sealed the X-ray section of the Poly General Hospital located in Asata.
Health commissioner George Ugwu, on Wednesday, sealed the X-ray section. Mr Ugwu sealed the unit during an on-the-spot inspection by him and a team of Ministry of Health officials, having identified the hospital’s X-ray unit as an unsafe practice with regulatory breaches.
The commissioner explained that the action was necessary to protect patients, staff, and the community from potential hazards associated with improper handling and operation of radiology equipment.
He stated that the safety of the citizens was non-negotiable, adding that any health facility operating without meeting required safety and operational standards would face immediate sanctions.
“This action will serve as a warning, as Governor Peter Mbah will not compromise on the quality of healthcare delivery. This inspection revealed several violations, including the absence of proper radiation shielding and failure to maintain essential safety protocols,” he said.
The commissioner assured the public that the facility would resume its X-ray services only after rectifying all violations and undergoing a follow-up inspection by the Ministry of Health.
