Four men were on Thursday arraigned before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged burglary and stealing of foodstuffs worth N215,800

The defendants- Friday Arowojolu, 20, Dayo Ademubo, 21, Tunmise Alade, 21 and Sunday ThankGod, 22, are student, farmer, welder and labourer, respectively.

They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy burglary and stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi. told the court that the defendants in June. 25 at 11:30 p.m. at Sabo area in Okitipupa, Ondo State, conspired to commit a felony.

Mr Orogbemi said that the defendants allegedly burgled the shop of one Abubakar Garba and stole 64 measures of rice valued N140,800; 84 measures of beans valued N66,000, and an umbrella valued N9,000, totalling N215,800.

Mr Orogbemi said that the defendants committed the offences, which contravene, and punishable under Sections 516, 413 and 390 (9), of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

The Chief Magistrate, Olanrewaju Adelegan, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each and one surety each in like sum.

He added that the sureties, who must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

Mr Adelegan adjourned the case until August 20, for further hearing.
