Afghanistan prepares to mark ‘victory day’ against U.S. forces

The Afghan interim government is preparing to celebrate its victory day, marking the fall of U.S.-led military troops on August 15.
It paved the way for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan four years ago.
All the main roads, including the one linking the Kabul International Airport to the emptied U.S. embassy, were decorated with the white flags of the administration on Thursday.
Moreover, the walls of some state-owned buildings and traffic circles had been inscribed with the slogan ‘Afghans defeated the invaders’.
The Afghan interim government took over power on August 15, 2021, and the last U.S. soldier left Afghanistan on August 31 of the same year.
Since the defeat and pullout of the U.S.-led troops from Afghanistan, the Afghan interim government had marked the day, August 15, as ‘Victory Day’.
