Ondo ready for National Youth Games, says OSSC chief

The general manager of the Ondo State Sports Council, Sunday Fagite, says the state is ready for the upcoming National Youth Games.
Mr Fagite stated this on Monday in Akure. The NYG was scheduled from August 26 to September 6 in Asaba, Delta.
Mr Fagite said he was proud of the performance of the state at the recently concluded zonal elimination in Ibadan and promised a better outing in Asaba.
According to him, Ondo participated in handball, abula, volleyball, and basketball, and qualified for three out of the four games.
“Ondo qualified for handball (f), abula (m), and beach volleyball (f) at the zonal elimination held last week in Ibadan. The state handball team defeated their counterparts from Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun States to top their group, which qualified them for the games.
“In beach volleyball, the state also defeated their opponents from Osun, Lagos, and Oyo States to come second. The Abula team also came second in the group after beating the Oyo State team, but lost to Ogun in the final to also qualify for the NYG,” said Mr Fagite.
“The athletes did well in all the events. We came here with four events, and we qualified in three, so we did well, and I am proud of them. With this, I am sure we are going to do well in Asaba and make the people of the state proud,” he added.
