The speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, has urged members of the assembly’s standing committees to avoid compromise during oversight functions at Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Mr Jatau made the call while declaring open a two-week oversight function to MDAs at the plenary session on Monday in Lafia.

The speaker said the oversight function, which would commence on August 26, was to ensure that the 2025 budget was strictly implemented by MDAs.

He urged the committees to be thorough during the two-week exercise.

Mr Jatau said the oversight function was not to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure that “the right things were done in MDAs”.

According to him, the assembly has appropriated funds for MDAs, and the constitution empowers it to determine whether the funds released to MDAs are being used judiciously or not.

“We have passed the 2025 budget, and it is our duty to ensure that the budget passed by the assembly is being implemented strictly for the benefit of our people.

“I want the public to know that oversight functions are not to witch-hunt but rather to checkmate the budget of MDAs as passed,” he said.

Mr Jatau called on the management of MDAs to support and cooperate with the various committees to enable them to succeed.

The speaker, therefore, appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State for his efforts in developing the state.
