The Auyo Local Government Council of Jigawa has engaged 166 unemployed graduates to serve as teachers on a temporary basis.

The information officer of the council, Muhammad Umar, made this known in a statement in Dutse on Wednesday.

Mr Umar said the youths, comprising National Certificate in Education (NEC) and degree holders, would serve as teachers under the Auyo Teach (A-Teach) programme initiated by the council.

The A-Teach is a replica of the state government Jigawa Teach (J-Teach) programme initiated to provide job opportunities and bridge the teacher gap in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the beneficiaries, the council chairman, Bilyaminu Ahmad, said engaging the youth was part of his council’s efforts to boost educational development and reduce unemployment in the area.

Mr Ahmad urged the local education authority in local governments to work closely with the A-Teach staff to achieve the desired objectives.

In his remarks, the chairman of the A-Teach committee, Yusuf Yunusa, appreciated the council chairman for the mandate given and assured that the committee carried out its assignment with fairness and justice in the selection of the candidates.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the chairman of the A-Teach Association, Yusuf Abdullahi, praised the council for the employment opportunity and pledged that the beneficiaries would perform their duties diligently.

Mr Abdullah also appealed for the cooperation of parents and community members in ensuring the success of the programme.
