The police command in Yobe State has arrested two suspects for allegedly vandalising electricity transmission cables and dismantling transformer components in the Yusufari Local Government Area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated this in a press release in Damaturu on Sunday.

He said the suspects, Kabiru Ibrahim, 23, of Sabon Garin Gashu, and Abubakar Abubakar, 24, of Bade Local Government Area, were apprehended at Sunomari area of Yusufari Town.

Mr Abdulkarim explained that the suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence and, during interrogation, confessed to the crime.

He added that investigation was ongoing for their subsequent prosecution.

The statement further disclosed that youths in the community attempted to lynch the suspects and burnt a motorcycle belonging to one of them before security operatives restored normalcy.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the acts of vandalism and cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.

Mr Ado warned that the command would not condone any form of jungle justice and assured that justice would be served through due process.

He called on the public to continue to provide useful information to security agencies to curb crime in the state.
