A 21-year-old girl is now in custody of the Delta State Police Command for allegedly killing her 34-year-old partner who she was cohabiting with since age 17 despite not being married to him.

Spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, in a post on X, on Wednesday, stated that the SSS 2 dropout, before stabbing her partner in the chest to death, already has two children for the now late victim, a one-year-old and a three-year-old.

Responding to whether a disagreement between both, during which her partner allegedly ended the relationship, made her commit the murder, the suspect said, “that was it but it was not all of it.,” adding that she killed him because he was beating her.

Narrating the incident, the suspect said, “I don’t know what triggered him against me but on Monday, I didn’t do anything, we were both not talking to each other. He was upset that I went to meet our neighbour for the meter. I asked him several times, but he didn’t respond to me, so I had no choice but to go and meet our neighbour for the meter so that he can help me load the card and for us to have light.

“He told me that ‘I thought I said that we can’t meet our neighbour for anything’. I said it’s because you were not responding to me. Then he seized the store key, the store he opened for me. He said he’s going to lock down the store.”

On what led to her stabbing him, she responded, “Well, he was beating me. He used his hand with the key in his hand and the hairbrush. He wanted to use the key because the key was in his right hand. As he used it, I used my hand to wave it, so that it won’t touch my eye, because this eye got affected once.”

Asked where she got the knife, she said, “It was in the kitchen. After he matched my head on the floor, when I was bleeding from my nose, that was when I went to the kitchen to take the dagger. I was standing between the kitchen and the dinning. He was coming directly at me. I told him that he should stay away.”

The suspect who identified herself only as Bina from Bayelsa State, but residing in Jakpa Road in Warri North, said her boyfriend died in the hospital, adding that, “they refused to attend to him.”

On why he was not attended to at the hospital, she said, “They didn’t say anything. They only said he lost blood. The first one we went to; they said the doctor was not around.”
