LASTMA commends Lagos residents for patience during Ogudu–Ifako Bridge repairs

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commended residents for their resilience, patience and understanding during the ongoing traffic diversions caused by the rehabilitation of the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge corridor.
LASTMA’s general manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the commendation in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to the statement, during an inspection visit to Ifako, Mr Bakare-Oki addressed the concerns of road users, dispelling fears about the scope and quality of the rehabilitation project.
He assured motorists that the reconstruction was being executed under strict international standards and would be completed within the timeframe earlier announced by the state government.
“I deeply empathise with our people over the inconveniences caused by this diversion.
“Nonetheless, this rehabilitation remains an indispensable undertaking of government, imperative to safeguard lives, fortify the structural integrity of the bridge and elevate the commuting experience along this vital transportation artery,” he said.
The LASTMA boss praised Lagos residents for their steadfast cooperation and the adjustments they made to their daily routines.
He noted that such discipline and sacrifice reflect the resilience and collective spirit of the state.
Mr Bakare-Oki also commended the steadfast commitment of LASTMA personnel diligently managing diversion points and other strategic corridors across the state.
He expressed satisfaction that no complaints had been recorded against their conduct from either motorists or the general public.
Mr Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s resolve, stressing its commitment to seamless traffic management, with officers strategically deployed to ease congestion, guide motorists and provide real-time interventions throughout the rehabilitation period.
He urged all road users to remain steadfast in obeying traffic directives, stressing that the temporary discomforts should be viewed not as burdens but as investments in a safer, more resilient, modernised transport system for Lagos.
He reiterated: “Our toll-free hotline, 080000527862, remains fully accessible for the prompt reporting of traffic obstructions, emergencies, accidents, or any other exigency requiring immediate LASTMA intervention.”
