Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved a bill to outlaw same-sex marriage and other immoral practices in the state.

The bill, which is to be transmitted to the State House of Assembly, prohibits same-sex marriage and practices like Madugo and Liwadi (lesbianism and homosexualism)

This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Friday.

Mr Dawakin-Tofa said the governor gave the approval during the 31st Executive Council meeting at the government house in Kano on Friday.

He said Mr Yusuf emphasised that the bill’s objective is to uphold Kano’s cultural and religious heritage.

According to him, Mr Yusuf warned that offenders would face strict legal consequences if the bill is passed into law, underscoring the government’s commitment to protecting the state’s moral integrity.
