Man, 25, in court over alleged shop-breaking, theft

A 25-year-old man, Ojo Samuel, was on Monday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged shop-breaking and stealing.
Samuel, whose address was not provided, is facing charges bordering on shop-breaking and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on March 1, 2025, between 10:00 p.m and 08:00 a.m at Osekita area in Iworoko-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant broke and entered the shop of one Sunday Peter.
Mr Bamikole alleged that the defendant stole phone accessories, such as screen guard and pouch, valued at N1.4 million belonging to the complainant.
He said that the offence contravened Section 324(1), 302(1)(a), 19(5) and 327(1) (e) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mrs Anoma said the sureties must not be less than grade level 14 civil service officers and they must produce proof of land ownership.
She adjourned the case until October 9 for hearing.
