AGILE moves to address school-related GBV in Zamfara

The Zamfara office of the World Bank’s project, ‘Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment’, has sensitised principals of Government Girls’ Secondary Schools and School-based Management Committees to the prevention of gender-based violence.
The sensitisation was conducted by NGOs such as Women Rights Advancement And Protection, Baobab for Women’s Rights, and the State Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
The one-day sensitisation workshop focused on GBV prevention and code of conduct, as well as Grievance Redressal Mechanisms in girls’ secondary schools in Zamfara central zone.
During the workshop in Gusau on Tuesday, Rabi Ibrahim, the coordinator of Baobab for Women’s Rights, made a presentation on GRM and GBV incidence reporting templates.
Ms Ibrahim said the workshop was aimed at sensitising the participants as major stakeholders in making schools safe from GBV and any form of abuse or harm within the schools’ environments.
The head of Zamfara SARC, Amina Hassan, presented papers on the concept of gender and GBV reporting procedures. Ms Hassan said that the presentation served as guidelines on how to prevent school-related GBV.
The AGILE coordinator, Sa’adatu Abdu-Gusau, charged the participants to utilise the opportunity of the training to contribute to addressing the GBV challenges, especially in schools.
Ms Abdu-Gusau said the project was highly committed to ensuring that a safe learning environment was provided for the adolescent girls.
