The Ondo State head of service (HoS), Bayo Philip, says the new extant rules guiding the public service include dismissal and criminal prosecution for the offence of sexual harassment in the service.

Mr Philip stated this on Thursday in Akure during the annual general meeting of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries of the South-West.

He stated that the state had reviewed its civil service rules and policies to meet the public’s expectations.

According to him, the reviewed civil service has increased maternity leave from three months to six months, while there is a provision for paternity leave of two weeks.

The HoS said the service, with its new mantra, “Don’t deliver short and don’t deliver late,” was aimed to align with the 21st century of the public service with greater output.

Mr. Philip stated that the state, with a staff strength of 42,000 and 13,000 pensioners, had no arrears of staff promotions.

Also speaking, the state chairman of the association, Mojisola Ajayi, appealed to all South-West governors to rejig the civil service by eliminating dysfunctionality and restoring efficiency to meet the people’s needs.

Ms Ajayi added that there must be pension scheme reform to urgently address the welfare of pensioners, stating that many retirees struggle with economic hardship.

She urged the South-West governors to replicate the success recorded in the establishment of the South-West Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, in all sectors of their respective states.

Ms Ajayi commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his compassionate and visionary leadership, particularly in prioritising the welfare of pensioners and for his strides in all sectors.

The South-West president, Ebenezer Okebukola, stated that the association had presented the blueprint for the proposed plan of action for the economic development of South-West Nigeria to the region’s governors.

In his speech, Mr Aiyedatiwa said his administration had implemented policies to ensure that the best could be achieved by civil servants.
