The Association of Resident Doctors at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, has confirmed the receipt of the Medical Residency ARD-COOUTH, from the Anambra government.

Joy Okwumuo, president of ARD-COOUTH, made the confirmation on Thursday in Awka.

Recall that the doctors embarked on a warning strike on September 11, which was suspended on Sept.13 following the intervention of Governor Charles Soludo, who promised prompt payment of the MRTF.

The governor also pledged to implement an upward review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure.

Ms Okwumuo expressed appreciation to Mr Soludo for fulfilling his promise and taking steps to stabilise the healthcare sector.

“On behalf of the members of ARD-COOUTH, I confirm that the administration of Governor Soludo has commenced the payment of the MRTF. We are also grateful to the governor for agreeing to our demand for the implementation of the revised CONMESS.

“This development will significantly enhance our working conditions and support the career progression of our members,” she said.

Mr Okwumuo added that the association remained optimistic that the government would address other pending demands.

“We look forward to the recruitment of more doctors and house officers to help mitigate the impact of brain drain in the institution. We are committed to supporting the realisation of Governor Soludo’s healthcare agenda,” she said.
