Remilekun Nutayi, the vice-chairman, Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos, is dead.

Zosu Solomon, the chief press secretary to the chairman of the council, Rauf Yemaren, confirmed the death in a statement on Sunday in Badagry.

According to him, the vice-chairman died on Saturday after a brief illness in Badagry.

“Nutayi’s passing, which occurred less than two months after assuming office, has left residents, political associates, and party faithful devastated.

“Before venturing into politics, she served as a dedicated teacher under the Lagos State Government, where she impacted countless lives.

“She later brought that same zeal into governance, distinguishing herself as Supervisor for Education in the Local Government, where she diligently discharged her duties with integrity and commitment.

“During the last local government election, she keenly contested for the position of Chairman of Badagry West LCDA,” he said.

Mr Solomon described Mrs Nutayi as a committed grassroots mobiliser and steadfast member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was widely admired for her humility, compassion, and drive for community development.

“Born into royalty, she was the daughter of Oba Oyekan Adekanmi, the Alapa of Apa Egun Awori Kingdom, Badagry.

“Her life reflected discipline, respect for tradition, and a passion for the progress of her people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Yemaren described her death as “a monumental tragedy that has created a painful vacuum in leadership.”

He extended condolences to her family, the royal palace of Apa, and the entire Badagry community.

She was the third female elected administrator to have died in Lagos this year, barely two months after their swearing-in.

Ibeju Lekki councillor, Oluwakemi Rufai, died barely two weeks after her swearing-in, while Zainab Shotayo, female councillor from Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, died a few days later.
