Police nab alleged kidnappers in Nasarawa

The police command in Nasarawa has detained two suspected kidnappers for terrorising residents of Lafia and Doma LGA.
The command’s spokesman, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, the suspects are Abubakar Abdullahi, 28, of Jalti Village, Dass LGA of Bauchi, and Abdullahi Isah, 32, of Tudun Alaramma, Doma LGA.
Mr Nansel said that the suspects were arrested by police personnel attached to Doma Division on Sunday, following reports by some residents of Saman Laraba, Doma, and Lafia, that some persons were threatening them to pay ransom or be kidnapped.
“They complain that some unknown persons had been threatening them through phone calls for over two months, demanding a ransom of ₦3,000,000 each or risk being kidnapped.
“The complainants alleged that the criminals had been contacting several residents in Lafia and Doma communities demanding ransom, some of whom had already paid for the fear of being kidnapped,” he added.
The command’s spokesman said that, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested the criminals in their hideout.
He stated that the suspects had made confessional statements admitting to the crime.
Mr Nansel said that during interrogations, the suspects confessed to having extorted between N6 million and N7 million from different individuals in both Doma and Lafia LGAs.
He stated that police commissioner Shetima Jauro-Mohammed had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further discreet investigation.
He reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to the police, thereby helping to ensure a safer society.
