The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, has called on other houses of assembly in the South-East zone to enact laws that will foster sustainable regional development in the zone.

Mr Udeze’s call was contained in his congratulatory message to Ohaneze Ndigbo for the successful celebration of the 2025 Igbo Day held in Awka made available to journalists by his press secretary, Emma Madu, on Tuesday.

He commended the efforts of the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo towards building an egalitarian Igbo nation, adding that with concerted efforts by prominent Igbo citizens, Ndigbo will continue to excel in all their endeavours.

Mr Udeze said that the law, when enacted, would address core and peculiar challenges faced by the zone, especially to provide maximum security of lives and property of the public in the zone.

He urged notable stakeholders in Igboland to see their roles as a collective responsibility by contributing meaningfully to address the menace of insecurity in the zone through the creation of jobs in the zone for youths.

The speaker noted with satisfaction the giant contributions of the foremost Igbo nationalists to the growth and development of the country, with particular reference to the first president of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe, among other Igbo patriots.

Mr Udeze praised the “Ohaneze Ndigbo” Worldwide leadership for honouring Anambra Governor Charles Soludo with the “Okunyeluife Ndigbo” title (Flame that gives light to Igbo).

He enjoined the people of the zone to rediscover those encouraging Igbo attributes and strive to be united and share love and peace at all times.

Mr Udeze appealed to affluent Igbo citizens, especially captains of industry, to invest part of their business in Igboland to enhance job opportunities as well as overall growth and development of the zone.

The speaker commended Mr Soludo for his unprecedented rediscovery, patronage and promotion of the Igbo native `Akwaete’ cloth, which other Igbo governors are currently emulating, noting that Igbo culture, attire and language should be our heritage.
