The police command in Lagos has begun enforcing the laws regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles across the state.

The command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, announced this in a statement in Lagos.

According to her, the exercise, which began on Thursday, is in line with the directives of IGP Kayode Egbetokun and aims to boost public safety, curb crime, and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

“Motorists with tinted glasses are required to obtain an approved permit via www.possap.gov.ng. Vehicle owners who have not yet registered are strongly advised to obtain the approved tinted glass permit at www.possap.gov.ng.

“Those who are not desirous of obtaining the tinted glass permit are advised to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as legally provided by the Motor Vehicles ( Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.

“Vehicles with tinted glasses without the permit will be impounded, and offenders will be prosecuted. While the command continues to enforce general traffic and safety regulations, motorists are advised to always carry their essential documents and to cooperate with officers during lawful stop-and-search operations,” she said.

Police commissioner Olohundare Jimoh warned officers to conduct the exercise professionally, free from harassment or extortion, stressing that offenders and their supervisors would face sanctions.

While appealing for public cooperation, the spokesperson reassured residents that the enforcement exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens, but rather to strengthen overall security.
