Police arraign Ekiti man arraigned for theft of building materials

The police on Friday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Kayode Egbeyemi, before the Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing building materials worth N250,000.
The defendant, whose occupation and address were not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant and one other at large committed a felony on July 15 around 11:30 p.m. at an uncompleted building on Okitipupa-Ode Aye Road in Okitipupa magisterial district.
Mr Omoyeigha said that the defendant and one other at large stole iron rods, aluminium, electrical conduit pipes and water pipes worth N250,000, property of one Omoyele Ikumapayi.
The prosecutor said that the defendant committed the offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 516 and 390(9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The chief magistrate, Mayowa Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.
He added that the surety, who must be resident within the court jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years’ tax payments made to the state government.
He adjourned the case until October 17 for further hearing.
