The police command in Nasarawa has presented cheques of over ₦47.8 million to families of its personnel who died in active service and those who sustained serious injuries while on duty.

Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the state commissioner of police, presented the cheques to representatives of the families on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun on Friday in Lafia.

The CP said the initiative was part of the IGP’s Group Personal Accident, Group Life Assurance, and Family Welfare Programmes.

“This is not just a cheque but a message of remembrance and appreciation. Let it serve as a foundation for something meaningful, a legacy that honours the memory of our fallen heroes,” the CP said.

The police boss expressed heartfelt sympathy to the beneficiaries and lauded the IGP for his unwavering commitment to humanitarian service.

He encouraged the recipients to invest the funds in profitable ventures that would secure their families’ futures.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their loved ones while upholding the core values of service, compassion, and accountability.

He said the amount presented to each family varied, depending on the rank and service years of the deceased or injured personnel.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hauwa Bukar thanked the IGP and the entire police leadership for the timely intervention.

She assured that the funds would be utilised wisely to secure a better future for their families.
