Ahmed Audi, commandant-general (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has commiserated with the family of Edo commandant Gbenga Agun, who died in active service.

This is contained in a statement by the NSCDC public relations officer (PRO), Babatunde Afolabi, on Friday in Abuja.

Mr Agun collapsed on Thursday, October 2, after giving a speech during an event commemorating World Peace Day in Benin City.

He was rushed to a military base hospital in Benin, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr Audi sympathised with the family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers of Mr Agun, stating that his death was a monumental loss to the corps in particular and the nation at large.

“We pray that God grants the corps, his family, and friends the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

The NSCDC boss described the late commandant as an astute and iconic security expert who gave the best of his service to enhancing the security of the nation.

“His dedication, humility in service, and intelligence earned him so much respect and admiration amongst his fellows,” Mr Audi said.
