The Biochemistry Practitioners, Plant Treatment Oasis Association of Nigeria has called on the federal government to prioritise the use of alternative medicine to enhance the health of Nigerians.

The president of the association, Olayemi Ikotun, made the call at the association’s 2025 conference on Saturday in Abuja.

The conference with the theme “Advancement of Natural Plant Supplement in Nigeria” was organised by the association to highlight the gains of alternative medicine.

According to Mr Ikotun, the aim of the conference is to induct new members and to use the medium to educate the public on the importance of alternative medicine.

He added that it was to propagate the use of effective natural medicinal supplements and raw material plants to treat and enhance the well-being and health of Nigerians without side effects.

“The Biochemistry Practitioners have what it takes to solve healthcare challenges facing our people. As an association, we give effective natural medicine supplements and raw material plans to individuals.

“We are putting more effort into using more effective natural nursing supplements and raw material plan to help our people and country.

“There are natural plant supplements that can address the issue of fibroids, piles and other threatening health challenges facing our people.

“We have done a lot of research, produced natural medicinal supplements and attended the National Natural Medicine Summit to showcase the genuineness and potency of such supplements.

“We urge the federal government to please recognise us and also prioritise the use of alternative medicine to better the health of our people,” Mr Ikotun said.

He further explained that natural medicinal supplements have high potency to give us longevity, stressing that older generations used alternative medicine and they stayed longer on earth.

“We are still producing and using these natural medicinal supplements to treat individuals completely without any side effects.

“So, government should look into this area to complement the orthodox medicine area of healthcare service in Nigeria.”

The high point of the event was the induction of members of the association and various presentations on natural medicinal supplements.
