Two men in court for stealing yams

Two men, Abubakar Sodiq and Ojo Gbenga, appeared before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing 10 tubers of yams.
Mr Sodiq, 25, and Mr Gbenga, 23, of unknown addresses, are facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on October 5 at about 2:00 p.m. on Abeope Farm, Industrial Estate, in Ikere-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants stole 10 tubers of yams valued at N30,000 belonging to the complainant, Odeyemi Sunday.
Mr Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 295 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Dotun Omoteye, urged the court to grant the defendants bail with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted each defendant N20,000 bail with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until November 11 for a hearing.
