Renowned diplomat Christopher Kolade dies at 92

Mr Kolade was born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State.

Renowned diplomat and former Nigerian high commissioner to the United Kingdom, Christopher Kolade, has died at the age of 92.

The family, in a statement, on Thursday, said the elder statesman died peacefully, on Wednesday.

The family said, “With gratitude to God for a life dedicated to the service of God and humanity, we announce the passing to glory of Ambassador (Dr) Christopher Olusola Kolade CON. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service; and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” it added.

Mr Kolade was born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State, acquired his secondary school education at Government College, Ibadan, before attending Fourah Bay College, Freetown, Sierra Leone.

He had honorary doctorate degrees of McPherson University (2016), University of Sierra Leone (1976), among others, while also holding many notable awards.

The veteran broadcaster was a former director-general of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, former chairman of Cadbury Nigeria, and also held top positions in several notable public and private organisations
