The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) says it is intensifying efforts to amplify Africa’s voice in global policy discussions while supporting member states in achieving greater economic and social stability.

The ECA executive secretary, Claver Gatete, said this in a statement.

Mr Gatete spoke at the third Quarter Accountability and Programme Performance Review Meeting (APPRM) of the Commission in Addis Ababa.

The theme of the event is “Connecting the Dots: Gathering Momentum for Q4 Annual Reporting.”

The meeting, presided over by the ECA boss, brought together all management members and teams to assess progress made toward the organisation’s 2025 Annual Business Plan.

Mr Gatete commended the efforts of the divisions and sub-regional offices, urging them to work more collaboratively with member states to ensure that ECA’s interventions translate into measurable impacts for African citizens.

He emphasised the importance of intensified coordination and commitment as the organisation moved toward the final quarter of its reporting cycle.

According to him, the meeting’s set targets are key to sustaining the commission’s credibility and effectiveness.

Mr Gatete reaffirmed that through such internal reviews and renewed collaboration, the ECA remains focused on delivering tangible results that drive inclusive growth, resilience, and sustainable development across Africa.

Presenting the corporate report, the director of the strategic planning, oversight, and results division, Said Adejumobi, said the ECA had maintained an active presence in key global forums.

Mr Adejumobi listed the reforms to include the African Climate Summit, Financing Development, the World Information Summit, and the Food Systems Summit.

He said the commission’s participation in these global platforms reflected its determination to promote Africa’s development agenda and ensure that the continent’s priorities were effectively represented in international decision-making spaces.

Mr Adejumobi said the ECA had also made significant progress in supporting African countries on macroeconomic policy reforms and domestic resource mobilisation, which had helped strengthen financial stability across the continent.

According to him, the commission is also assisting several member states in enhancing their social protection systems.

He described the step as crucial for maintaining social and economic resilience, especially in the face of global uncertainties.

The APPRM serves as one of ECA’s core accountability mechanisms, held quarterly to monitor programme delivery, budget implementation, and performance across divisions and offices.
