Kaduna: Lawmakers Katung, Amos urged to join APC to bolster federal presence
A coalition of political support groups in Southern Kaduna has urged Sunday Katung (PDP–Kaduna South) and Dan Amos, member representing Jema’a/Sanga federal constituency, to join the All Progressives Congress to attract more federal presence.
The group, led by Samson Maikano, made the appeal during a meeting with the lawmakers in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf LGA, on Saturday.
The group presented a memorandum of understanding, urging the National Assembly members to “align with the centre for greater dividends of democracy”.
Mr Maikano explained that the proposal was borne out of satisfaction with the lawmakers’ performances and the desire to accelerate development in Southern Kaduna through stronger political synergy with the federal government.
“We just delivered our MoU to the Senator and House Member, urging them to join the ruling APC for more access to the centre. They can easily attract more projects and development to our region. We have been left behind for too long and cannot afford continued political isolation,” Mr Maikano stated.
He recalled that periods of political alignment between Southern Kaduna and the party at the centre had previously yielded significant gains for the region.
“When our elites aligned with the PDP at the federal, state, and local levels, the region witnessed massive infrastructural and social development. We are inspired by that example,” he added.
Mr Maikano commended President Bola Tinubu for approving major federal projects and appointments for Southern Kaduna in spite of the area’s limited support for the APC in the 2023 elections.
He listed key interventions, including the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, a new Secondary School in Jagindi, and various youths’ empowerment programmes.
“These are clear signs that if Southern Kaduna supports Tinubu in 2027, the region will benefit even more,” Mr Maikano said.
He assured the lawmakers of the group’s support, however, if they choose to remain in the PDP.
