NAWOJ Adamawa advocates better protection for girl child
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Adamawa chapter, has called for collective efforts to promote the rights and well-being of girls as the world marks the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
Felicia Dauda, chairperson of the association, made the call in a statement issued in Yola on Saturday.
The International Day of the Girl Child is observed annually on October 11 to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
The 2025 theme is “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”
Ms Dauda said the day serves as a reminder of the urgent need to ensure that every girl has equal access to education, healthcare, and protection, as well as opportunities to reach her full potential.
She lamented that many girls in Adamawa and across Nigeria continue to face challenges such as early marriage, gender-based violence, and limited access to quality education.
The chairperson urged governments at all levels, stakeholders, parents, and community leaders to work together to safeguard the rights of girls and create safe environments where they can learn, grow, and lead.
“As women journalists, we remain committed to amplifying the voices of the girl child and advocating for a society where every girl can dream without limits and fulfill her potential,” Ms Dauda said.
