ASUU declares two-week warning strike from Monday

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Sunday, declared a “total and comprehensive” strike action to press home its unaddressed demands.
This development was announced by the president of the staff union, Chris Piwuna, during a press briefing at the University of Abuja.
Mr Piwuna said, “Compatriots of the press, it goes without saying that there is nothing sufficient on ground to stop the implementation of the ASUU-NEC’s resolution to embark on a two-week warning strike at the expiry of the 14-day notice given on the 28th September 2025.
“Consequently, all branches of ASUU are hereby directed to withdraw their services with effect from midnight on Monday, the 13th October, 2025,” he stated.
“The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last NEC meeting.”
In line with its earlier directive to down tools, ASUU’s warning strike would imply a halt to academic activities across all the public tertiary institutions in the country.
The staff union is demanding adequate funding of public universities, improved working conditions, payment of earned allowances, university autonomy, and implementation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement and 2020 Memorandum of Action.
