Cape Verde qualified for the World Cup for the first time on Monday after a 3-0 win against Eswatini. This victory secured the top spot in their African qualifying group, leaving Cameroon as the second team in the group.

A tiny country with a population of around 525,000, Cape Verde will make their debut at the World Cup upon garnering 23 points in their ten games, while the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will fight for a World Cup ticket in play-offs.

Dailon Livramento fired in a goal at the 48th minute to put Cape Verde ahead in the first half, while Willy Semedo doubled the Blue Sharks’ lead in the 54th minute.

Defender Stopira made it three for Cape Verde in stoppage time, sealing their victory and cruising to the 2026 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Indomitable Lions were held to a draw in Yaounde by Angola and would be fighting for a World Cup ticket in the play-offs.

Libya, Angola, and Mauritius ended their World Cup ticket chase, finishing 16, 12, and 6 points behind Cameroon in Group D, respectively.
