A 25-year-old man, Kehinde Abiodun, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for stealing N50,000 while being interrogated in a police station.

Mr Abiodun was charged with felony and theft. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 7 at the Morogbo Police Station along Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant stole N50,000 while undergoing interrogation, property of Rebecca Immosemi, the complainant.

Mr Ekpo said the defendant was earlier brought to the station for conspiring with others to steal property worth N121,000 belonging to Usman Mohammed.

“The defendant was arrested and handed over to police for prosecution. The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015,” he said.

The chief magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties paying same sum. He said that one of the sureties must be a community leader.

The case was adjourned until October 22 for mention.
