Tinubu hailed for completing Maiduguri power plant

Information minister Mohammed Idris has commended President Bola Tinubu for completing the Maiduguri Emergency Power Gas Plant.
Mr Idris spoke during a tour of federal and state projects in Maiduguri on Wednesday. He recalled that the activities of insurgents had led to a complete power outage in Maiduguri and other parts of Borno.
“We need to give credit to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who facilitated the establishment of this gas power plant. We also need to give credit to President Bola Tinubu for his resolve to ensure the completion, continuity, and sustainability of the plant.
“The power plant has the capacity to provide the energy needs of the entire city of Maiduguri and beyond. We also heard from the security personnel that this plant is immune to any kind of security breach. This is a beautiful site to behold. As you can see, Maiduguri is the place where you have efficient and almost round-the-clock electricity,” he said.
He said the initiative was complementing the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Power in its mandate to ensure adequate power supply in the country.
The minister also noted that the country had, in March, attained above 5,000 megawatts.
He said the Maiduguri plant would tackle outages and boost power in households and businesses.
The minister and his team also visited a solar energy plant, which has 24,000 panels and supplies power to the University of Maiduguri and its teaching hospital.
The minister also visited some secondary schools and interchange bridges being constructed by the state government.
The Muhammadu Buhari International Airport was also visited, which has ongoing projects being executed by the Federal Government with support from the state government.
