The speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Dennis Guwor, has lauded the launch of the State Security Trust Fund, describing it as a timely and visionary initiative.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori launched the fund on Wednesday to bolster security and good governance in the state.
In his reaction to the launch in a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, on Saturday in Asaba, Mr Guwor applauded the governor over what he termed “bold and forward-thinking” approach to improving the state’s security infrastructure.
He said that the fund was a major milestone in Delta’s efforts to ensure peace, stability and economic growth.
Mr Guwor, who also serves as the national treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, expressed the readiness of the state assembly to provide legislative backing to the fund.
He reaffirmed the house’s commitment to support government initiatives aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of residents, while promoting prosperity across the state.
He said, “This initiative by Governor Oborevwori is not only timely but also strategic in fortifying our security system. The trust fund will serve as vital mechanism to supporting and enhancing the capabilities of our security agencies, enabling them to respond effectively to emerging threats.”
Highlighting the collaborative spirit behind the initiative, he called on private sector players, development partners and philanthropists to contribute to the fund, describing security as a shared responsibility.
He specifically praised the N10 billion donation by the chairman of Tantita Security Services, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo. He described the gesture as a remarkable example of community-driven support for state development.
The speaker noted that the legal framework for the trust fund, which was duly passed by the parliament, demonstrated the legislature’s proactive role in addressing the state’s security needs.
“The establishment of this fund is not just about financing security operations, it represents a commitment to creating safer Delta where businesses can thrive, communities flourish and lives protected,” he said.
The speaker, therefore, assured the people of continuous oversight, pledged that the assembly would monitor the implementation of the trust fund.
