Jigawa constitutes tax reform technical committee

Governor Umar Namadi has inaugurated a technical committee to fast-track the domestication of the federal government’s new tax policy in Jigawa.
This was disclosed in a statement by his media aide, Hamisu Gumel, on Monday in Dutse.
Mr Namadi said the committee would study the new tax policy to facilitate its implementation in line with the federal government’s fiscal reforms.
“The fiscal reforms aim at broadening the revenue base, improving efficiency, and ensuring fairness in Nigeria’s tax system. The technical committee is set up for the investigation and implementation of the new tax reform policy, which is expected to take effect across the country from January 2026,” he said.
According to Mr Namadi, the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the state’s fiscal capacity and enhance service delivery.
He said the terms of reference of the committee are to examine the new federal tax framework, identify and recommend areas for domestication, develop a practical implementation strategy/roadmap, and propose necessary strategic and administrative adjustments.
The governor said the committee would also engage the business community, civil society groups, and stakeholders to ensure public awareness and compliance with the new law.
Mr Namadi tasked members of the committee to discharge their duties with diligence and teamwork spirit.
“It is expected that the committee will submit an initial report within two weeks, a direct implementation roadmap within six weeks, and a final report of recommendations within two months,” said Mr Namadi.
The statement also quoted the chairman of the committee, Hannatu Sabo, as reiterating the commitment to deliver its mandate.
“We assure you that we will carry out our responsibilities with full dedication, diligence, and the highest sense of responsibility. We will approach our work with professionalism, commitment, and integrity,” she said.
