Ibadan estate agent arraigned for allegedly defrauding accommodation seekers N15 million

The magistrate adjourned the case until November 29, for hearing.

A 42-year-old estate agent, Temitope Animashaun, on Tuesday, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly defrauding accommodation seekers N15 million.

The defendant whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a 67-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud, and stealing.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence between January and September, at Benjamin area of Eleyele in Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Abiodun Balogun, under the pretence of helping him to secure a two-bedroom apartment.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also obtained the sum of N190,000 from one Raheem Ogundowole, under the pretence of securing him a shop.

The defendant also allegedly obtained the sum of N150,000 from one Soliu Salimon and 20 others, on a false pretence of getting houses for them to the tune of N15 million.

He alleged that Animashaun fraudulently obtained the money from all accommodation seekers, without securing any apartments for them.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, T. G. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of five million naira, with two sureties in like sum.

The court held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.

She adjourned the case until November 29, for hearing.
