The Senate, on Tuesday at plenary, passed two bills from the House of Representatives for concurrence.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill and the Dietitians Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill were among four others earlier presented to the Senate.

One of the bills, the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Oke-Igbo, Ondo State (Establishment) Bill, was stepped down following the federal government’s decision not to establish any higher institution for the next seven years.

Similarly, the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill was stood down and referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters for further review after various observations by lawmakers on the causes, which bordered on rape, defilement, and abortion.

Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate majority leader (APC-Ekiti), moved the motion for the concurrence and was seconded by Olalere Oyewumi (PDP- Osun).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, after the bills were approved for concurrence, said they would promote road safety and improve public health awareness.

“I congratulate our colleagues in the House of Representatives for their contributions and the painstaking manner in which they scrutinised these bills,” Mr Akpabio said.
