The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said speeding, overloading, fatigue and dangerous overtaking are responsible for road traffic crashes across the country.

The sector commander of the corps in Plateau State, Olajide Mogaji, said this on Wednesday shortly after inaugurating the state’s 2025 ‘Ember Months’ special patrols in Jos.

Mr Mogaji identified other factors responsible for crashes on the highways as the conveyance of persons on haulage vehicles and travelling with fuel in plastic containers, among others.

He said that the ember month’s special patrol was aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, particularly its impact on society.

He stated, “The theme for this year’s ember months campaign, ‘Taking Responsibility for Your Safety,’ is deliberate and well thought out. It was carefully chosen to address road traffic infringements by drivers who are largely responsible for previous road crashes.

“These violations include failure to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, speed limit violation, road rage, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and seatbelt violation.’’

Mr Mogaji, who called on motorists to cooperate with FRSC personnel towards safer roads, also warned them to desist from violating traffic rules and regulations.

He also advised them against night driving and underage driving and to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition at all times.
