Police arraign man for assaulting officers

The police, on Friday, arraigned one Sam Omaddi, 30, before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly assaulting police officers.
Mr Omaddi, whose address was not provided, is facing a seven-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, assault, occasioning harm, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and malicious damage.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between August and October 21 at Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted Insp. Muritala Atanda and Isiaka Okunade.
Mr Adegbite said the defendant and others at large unlawfully used a razor to cut Mr Atanda’s clothes, worth N20,000.
The prosecutor said the defendant also assaulted one Insp. Kemi David by blowing her.
He said Mr Omaddi conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace and committed offences contrary to Sections 516, 351, 249(d), and 451 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant a N100,000 bail and two sureties, in like sum.
Ms Ayofe, thereafter, adjourned the case until December 3 for a hearing.
