Four men arraigned for allegedly stealing cows worth N2.5 million
The police on Wednesday dragged four men before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing and receiving stolen cows valued at N2.5 million.
The defendants are Buhari Aliyu, 20; Abdullahi Mikano, 43; Akeem Yusuf, 40; and Kareem Taiwo, 40.
They are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods.
They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Akeem Akinloye, told the court that Buhari and Abdullahi (first and second defendants) conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence.
Mr Akinloye alleged that they stole two big cows on August 24, at about 4: 00a.m. at Ijawaya village, in Oyo town.
The livestock is said to be owned by one Muhammed Sanni.
He said that the cows are valued at N2.5 million
The prosecutor further alleged that the third and fourth defendants received the stolen cows from the first and second defendants, knowing same to be stolen.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390 (9), 427 and 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Oyo State 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The court ordered that one of the sureties must be a close relative of the defendants.
She adjourned the case until November 17, for hearing.
