Billionaire tech-guru Elon Musk has slammed ChatGPT over a claim that a Nigerian man’s life is 20 times more valuable than a white German man’s life.

Mr Musk recently made the remark on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

“You’ll find that other AIs are quite racist against white people, Mr Musk said. “I don’t know if you saw that study that someone (sic), like a researcher tested to see the various AIs to see how does it weight different people’s lives, like you know, who’s sort of white or Chinese or black or whatever or in different countries, and the only AI that actually weighed human lives equally was Grok, and the, you know, I believe ChatGPT weighed, [and] the calculation was like — a white guy from Germany is 20 times less valuable than a black guy from Nigeria.”

The X CEO added, “So, I’m like, that’s a pretty big difference. [But] Grok, on that is consistent and weighs lives equally.”

Meanwhile, a group of investors led by Mr Musk had earlier submitted a bid worth almost $100 billion to take control of ChatGPT inventor OpenAI, according to a media report.

The offer, valued at $ 97.4 billion (approximately $ 94.4 billion), was submitted to OpenAI’s board of directors, a lawyer for Musk told The Wall Street Journal.

However, OpenAI’s boss, Sam Altman, had reacted mockingly.

“No thanks,” he wrote on X, retorting that OpenAI would buy Twitter from Mr Musk for $9.74 billion if he wanted to sell. The tech billionaire had paid around $44 billion for X in 2022.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is currently undergoing a restructuring process to transform itself into a for-profit company. Mr Musk, once a co-founder of OpenAI, is already fighting the start-up in court to prevent this. Among other things, he claimed that he was defrauded when he left the company.
